Welcome to Puerto Rico Health Information Network
Health Information Exchange or (HIE) is a process of utilizing reliable and interoperable electronic health related information that allows sharing of medical data to be conducted in a manner that will protect the privacy, confidentiality, and also the security information of the patients.
With the passage of time the development and the widespread of HIEs is becoming a reality at quite a quick pace. The (HIOs) or Health Information Organizations are the ones that are able to oversee the Health Information Exchange. In order for the HIOs to be able to function properly they should have the ability to employ nationally recognized standards that will allow them to enable interoperability, confidentiality, and security in order to ensure the authorization of those individuals who access to the particular information.
This is the project page for the "Puerto Rico Health Information Network" (PRHIN), Puerto Rico's Island-wide HIE project. This project supported through a grant (Grant ID "90HT0001") received through the Office of the Governor of Puerto Rico from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of the U.S. federal government.
The grant is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH), State Health Information Exchange Cooperative Agreement Program.
